Leasing a BMW

BMW is the driver's pick among the German luxury brands, and in the tri-state area it's the default badge for anyone who wants a genuinely engaging chassis without giving up a premium cabin. The range runs from the compact 2 Series and X1 through the 3 Series, 5 Series and X3, up to the 7 Series and X7, alongside the electric i4, i5, i7 and iX.

What's covered. BMW's New Vehicle Limited Warranty runs 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first, with rust perforation covered 12 years/unlimited miles and the federal emission warranty at 2 years/24,000 miles. Scheduled maintenance is genuinely included: BMW USA states that "Every new BMW begins with BMW Ultimate Care coverage for the first 3 years or 36,000 miles." That covers oil and filter changes, engine air filter, cabin microfilter, spark plugs, brake fluid, key battery and the vehicle check, plus roadside assistance for 4 years and unlimited miles. Read the fine print, though — brake pads, clutch and wiper blades sit in the paid Ultimate Care+ upgrade, not the standard tier.

Reliability. Consumer Reports ranked BMW 5th of 26 brands in its December 2025 reliability rankings, the only European brand in its top 10, with the 2 Series the highest-scoring European model. In J.D. Power's 2026 U.S. Initial Quality Study, BMW took six model-level segment awards — more than any other parent company. On safety, ratings are model-by-model: the IIHS named the 2026 X1 a Top Safety Pick+ in July 2026.

Resale is the honest weak spot, and it's exactly why BMWs are usually leased. iSeeCars' March 2026 study of more than 950,000 five-year-old vehicles put average five-year depreciation at 41.8%, and found luxury models dominating the fastest-depreciating list — the 7 Series lost 61.6% of its value, the 5 Series hybrid 59.5%, the X5 hybrid 57.1%. A lease fixes your cost at the contracted residual and leaves that risk with BMW Financial Services.

Why lease a BMW through Swift Autos

A broker and a BMW center draw from the same BMW Financial Services program — same money factor, same residual, same regional incentives. What differs is the process. We shop multiple franchised BMW dealers across NY, NJ and CT at once, so you can see where a given 330i or X3 actually lands instead of negotiating store by store. You get the selling price, money factor, residual and drive-off itemized in writing before you sign, so you can check the math yourself. We don't control BMW's programs. In a month with thin incentives or tight allocation on a particular trim, the honest answer is that the number won't be great. What we offer is time saved and price transparency, not magic.

BMW lease questions

Is maintenance included when I lease a new BMW?

Yes, for most of a standard term. BMW USA says every new BMW includes BMW Ultimate Care for the first 3 years or 36,000 miles — oil and filter changes, engine air filter, cabin microfilter, spark plugs, brake fluid, key battery and the vehicle check. That lines up almost exactly with a 36-month, 10,000-mile-a-year lease. Brake pads and wiper blades are not included; they're part of the paid Ultimate Care+ upgrade.

How long is the BMW factory warranty, and does it cover my whole lease?

BMW's New Vehicle Limited Warranty runs 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Rust perforation is covered for 12 years with unlimited miles, and roadside assistance runs 4 years, unlimited miles. A typical 24- or 36-month lease at normal mileage finishes comfortably inside that window, so on a standard term you shouldn't face an out-of-warranty repair bill before you hand the car back.

Why do people lease BMWs rather than buy them?

Depreciation, mainly. iSeeCars' March 2026 study of over 950,000 five-year-old vehicles found the average car loses 41.8% of its value in five years, and that luxury models dominate the fastest-depreciating list — BMW's 7 Series shed 61.6%. Leasing fixes your cost against a contracted residual value, so the resale risk sits with BMW Financial Services instead of landing on you at trade-in time.

Are BMWs reliable enough to lease without worrying?

Recent third-party data is reasonably encouraging. Consumer Reports ranked BMW 5th out of 26 brands in its December 2025 reliability rankings, the only European brand to make its top 10. In J.D. Power's 2026 U.S. Initial Quality Study, BMW earned six model-level segment awards, more than any other parent company. A lease also keeps you inside the factory warranty for the entire term.

Which BMWs hold their value best, and why does that matter to me?

Residual value directly sets your monthly payment, and BMW's varies widely by model. On iSeeCars' 2026 resale data, the 2 Series coupe retained 63.6% of its value after five years, while the 3 Series plug-in hybrid retained 49.9% and the i4 just 35.5%. Weaker residuals push payments up unless BMW offsets them with incentives, which is why lease numbers differ so sharply across the range.

Do you lease in all of NY, NJ and CT, and does my state change the price?

Yes, we lease across all three states. The vehicle price and the BMW Financial Services program are the same, but New York, New Jersey and Connecticut tax and register leases differently, so both your drive-off and your monthly payment shift by state and sometimes by county. We quote against your actual ZIP code with taxes and fees itemized, rather than a generic advertised payment.
