Leasing a Jeep

Jeep is Stellantis's off-road brand, and unlike most SUV marketing the capability claim is at least measured. Stellantis Media describes the Trail Rated badge as certification across five tested categories — traction, water fording, maneuverability, articulation and ground clearance — with sealed electrical connections and a raised air intake for fording, and approach, breakover and departure angles maximized for clearance.

The hardware behind the badge differs sharply by model. Jeep's own Wrangler materials describe Selec-Trac as a full-time two-speed system with a 2.72:1 low range, a Trac-Lok limited-slip differential and 2H, 4H Auto, 4H Part-Time and 4L modes. Rubicon's Rock-Trac steps up to a 4.0:1 low range on heavy-duty Dana 44 axles, Tru-Lok electric front and rear lockers, an electronic front sway-bar disconnect and a 77.2:1 crawl ratio, with water fording quoted up to 76 cm. On Grand Cherokee the ladder runs Quadra-Trac I (single-speed, no low range), Quadra-Trac II (two-speed, up to 100% of torque to the axle with grip) and Quadra-Drive II, which adds a rear electronic limited-slip differential able to send up to 100% of torque to a single rear wheel.

Warranty is 3 years/36,000 miles basic, 5 years/60,000 miles powertrain on gas models, 5 years of unlimited-mileage corrosion perforation coverage and 5 years/60,000 miles roadside. A 4xe plug-in hybrid's high-voltage battery is covered 8 years/100,000 miles federally, and 10 years/150,000 miles where the vehicle is certified to California emissions standards.

Reliability is the honest weak spot: Consumer Reports placed Jeep last, 24th, in its 2026 Brand Report Card, a third consecutive year. Resale then splits hard. iSeeCars has the Wrangler holding about 68% of value after five years and the Gladiator 67.7%, against a 58.5% all-vehicle average, while Cherokee (53.9%) and Wagoneer (53.8%) trail badly. On a lease, that gap is the payment.

Why lease a Jeep through Swift Autos

A franchise store sells you the inventory sitting on its own lot, at the programs that store happens to be running. A broker starts from the opposite end: you tell us the trim, the term and the mileage, and we work the dealers who have that car to find where the numbers land best. Practically, that means one conversation instead of four showrooms, an out-the-door figure with the bank fee, taxes and DMV shown separately rather than folded into a monthly payment, and delivery to your home or office anywhere in NY, NJ or CT. We will also tell you when a Jeep does not lease well — a weak residual is not something we can negotiate away, and you should hear that before you commit, not after.

Jeep lease questions

Why does a Wrangler often lease better than a bigger, similarly priced Jeep?

Lease payments are driven mostly by how much value the car is projected to keep. iSeeCars measures the Wrangler at roughly 68% retention after five years and the Gladiator at 67.7%, while the Cherokee (53.9%) and Wagoneer (53.8%) land far lower. A stronger residual means less depreciation to pay for over the term, which is why Wrangler quotes often surprise people who assumed the larger Jeep would be cheaper.

What does the Trail Rated badge actually certify?

Stellantis Media describes Trail Rated as certification across five tested categories: traction, water fording, maneuverability, articulation and ground clearance. Fording capability comes from sealed electrical connections and a raised air intake; clearance is judged on approach, breakover and departure angles, not just ride height. It is a capability badge rather than a trim level, and not every Jeep on a dealer lot carries it.

Are Jeep's 4x4 systems really different, or is it just naming?

They are genuinely different. Jeep's Wrangler materials list Selec-Trac as a full-time two-speed system with a 2.72:1 low range and 2H, 4H Auto, 4H Part-Time and 4L modes, while Rubicon's Rock-Trac uses a 4.0:1 low range, Dana 44 axles, Tru-Lok lockers and a 77.2:1 crawl ratio. On Grand Cherokee, Quadra-Trac I has no low range at all, and Quadra-Drive II adds a rear electronic limited-slip differential. Tell us the driving you actually do.

Does the factory warranty cover the whole lease?

Jeep's factory coverage is 3 years/36,000 miles basic and 5 years/60,000 miles powertrain on gas models, plus 5 years of unlimited-mileage corrosion perforation coverage and 5 years/60,000 miles of roadside assistance. A typical 24- or 36-month lease at 10,000 to 12,000 miles a year therefore sits inside bumper-to-bumper coverage for its entire term — one of the quieter arguments for leasing rather than buying a Jeep.

Is a 4xe plug-in hybrid a good lease?

The 4xe high-voltage battery is covered 8 years/100,000 miles federally, extending to 10 years/150,000 miles where the vehicle is certified to California emissions standards — worth confirming against your specific VIN. Balance that against Consumer Reports, which named the Grand Cherokee PHEV among the least reliable vehicles in its latest survey. Leasing caps your exposure to long-term battery and complexity questions, which is a fair reason to lease a 4xe rather than own one.

How do Jeeps score on reliability and safety?

Be clear-eyed. Consumer Reports placed Jeep last, 24th, in its 2026 Brand Report Card for a third straight year, citing below-average reliability, the lowest average road-test score and the lowest owner satisfaction. On safety it varies by model: IIHS rates the 2025 Grand Cherokee a Top Safety Pick, though it scores Poor in the updated moderate overlap front test, while the 2025 Wrangler holds no award and rates Marginal to Poor for headlights.
